Canada's Lloyd Shaw Puts Jaguar On NASCAR Grand National Pole - June 21, 1953

June 21, 1953
Lloyd Shaw from Toronto, shocked everyone in qualifying, putting a Jaguar on the pole for the NASCAR stock car race at Langhorne, Pennsylvania, USA. Shaw qualified at 82.2 mph in the thirty-eight car field. Sadly, Shaw couldn't back it up in the race, finishing 23rd.

In 1953, NASCAR opened up the Grand National race at Langhorne, to “foreign cars.” Lloyd’s sponsor, James Cook, who was the Canadian agent for Jaguar cars and had dealerships in Toronto and Winnipeg, entered a Jaguar for Lloyd. To this day, Lloyd Shaw is the only Canadian ever to win a pole in NASCAR’s premier division.
